Alan with the Olympic Torch in Sydney |
Since 1988
Alan’s athletes have won the OZ (Australian) men’s junior
champs more times that all the other states put together, five times taking
all three medals. Ditto the girls since its inception in ‘96. He
brought all of these athletes into the sport and taught them how to jump
– “no stealing other peoples work”, he says.
A Keynote speaker at Reno in 2004 – USATF PV Head, and many other high profile coaches have extended open invitations for Alan to offer programs at their schools. But this year, WE get him!! In addition Alan coached or assisted with the following
athletes; In addition Alan was national event coach in OZ for ten years and now we have three guys jumping 5.91m (19’ 5”), 6.00m (19’ 8 ¼”)and 6.05m (19’ 10 ½”). Though he doesn’t coach any of them, he has input into the coaches who do and watches them train. Then note Vickie Parnov 4.30m (14' 1 ¼”) at age 15!!! And her sister Elizabeth at 10 is already jumping 2.30m (7’ 6”) and will break every world age group record in the future - I am not coaching them but all are using this METHOD! Alan says the most significant thing - apart from my own kid’s performances -is the quality of the people whom he has used as mentors!! They have produced eight world championships, three Olympic champions, a world junior champion, a female world record holder, at least one indoor world champion and an Olympic silver medal for the girls! And he gets to watch Dimitri Markov train (19’ 10 ½”)!!!! Got to rub that in!! |
